Join us on May 23rd, 2013 as the Asheville community comes together to celebrate local pioneer Bob Moog and  support the Bob Moog Foundation

Eleven local restaurants in the Asheville community are coming together for Feast for the Future, a fundraiser to support local non-profit, the Bob Moog Foundation.  Feast for the Future takes place on May 23rd, what would have been the  79th birthday of the Foundation’s namesake, Bob Moog.  In honor of this special occasion Early Girl Eatery, Moe’s Original BBQ, Wicked Weed, Chestnut, Laughing Seed Café, Jack of the Wood, Chai Pani, MG Road, Bouchon, Salsa’s, and The Local Joint, will be donating a portion of their sales from the day to the Bob Moog Foundation.  This event is being sponsored by the Mountain Xpress and Asheville Radio Group’s 98.1 the River.

This event has expanded since its inception last year as Bob’s Birthday Salute, when Early Girl Eatery was the sole participant raising over $1500 on their own.  We are proud to have been able to grow the event this year and re-name it with the intention of continuing to expand annually.  Thank you to Early Girl Eatery, the ten new restaurants, and our new sponsors participating this year.  We look forward to working with you all for years to come to inspire the next generation of creative thinkers!

Please join us at one of the participating restaurants for lunch or dinner (or breakfast at Early Girl or the Local Joint!) on the 23rd! Your support makes helps our innovative programs grow!

Salsa’s

Salsas Mexican Caribbean Restaurant

Ask someone where it is.

Fresh since 1994

Salsa’s first opened in 1994 with much love, hope and creativity from Hector Diaz.  Hector, a native of Puerto Rico, stumbled upon a little spot and was given the opportunity to use his creative energy and turn it into a great restaurant.  Salsa’s was born out of a small kitchen, dirt filled alley and food that compares to no other. Hector had a tiny window to sell burrito’s and taco’s out of and everything was “to-go”.  Years later when Hector had the chance to get the space next to his kitchen he took the opportunity and opened the walls up and added a dining room.  It has now turned into a full-fledged dining experience that shouldn’t be missed!  We guarantee you that every bite tastes new and the food you order is made with pride and love.

 Jack of the Wood

Jack of the Wood LogoJack of the Wood is a cozy Celtic style pub located in vibrant downtown Asheville, NC. Since opening our doors in 1996 we’ve been one of Asheville’s favorite places to come and relax, listen to music, and enjoy fresh, locally sourced pub fare. We’re the original home of Green Man Brewing, specializing in hand crafted English ales. Sit back and hear the fiddlers play at one of our informal acoustic jam sessions while enjoying our charming old world atmosphere and a pint of one of our classic ales.

On a typical evening at Jack’s you’ll find many of the patrons gathered around the black walnut bar or at long wooden tables engaged in conversation. Others play darts or scan the papers while sipping a pint or munching on a plate of fish and chips. When local musicians are fiddling away on Irish reels or picking some old time mountain music in the corner, you can blink your eyes and imagine yourself in the Celtic Isles or an early American tavern.

Laughing Seed Cafe

Laughing Seed Cafe LogoThe Laughing Seed Cafe was started in 1991 by Joan and Joe Eckert. Originally a small lunch counter on the lower level of the local YMCA, we moved to our current location on Asheville’s historic Wall St in June of 1993, where we were one of the first businesses to spearhead the downtown Renaissance of this beautiful city in the Blue Ridge mountains.

If you are a seasoned lover of meatless cuisine you’re in for a real treat. After all, as our many satisfied customers will tell you, there’s nothing like “Eating Right!” at the Laughing Seed Cafe.

The Laughing Seed’s ambiance is one of a soothing oasis, where warm shades, a mural of the rainforest, and a babbling fountain melt away anxieties and set the stage for our festive, imaginative cuisine. A beautiful blue-green bar invites customers to sample one of our many fresh fruit smoothies and elixirs, indulge in a martini or mojito, relax with a glass of wine, or sip one of our locally brewed Green Man Ales. In warm weather dining is available on our sheltered patio, perfect for people watching and soaking up the mountain breeze.  Quality and creativity have always been the driving forces behind the Laughing Seed’s eclectic international approach to vegetarian dining and this has led to our popularity with vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Local products, organic ingredients and a flair for global fusion combine to give our dishes a unique and satisfying character.

Chai Pani

Chai Pani literally means “tea and water”. It’s slang in India for going out for a cup of tea, a tasty bite, a snack, or “a little something”.

Well here in Downtown Asheville it’s slang for innovative, fun, affordable & delicious Indian cuisine. We’d go so far as to say it’s “mindblasting”.

Some of the most tasty, fun and affordable food of any country is it’s street food and Chai Pani features chaat – crunchy, spicy, sweet, tangy, brightly flavored Indian street snacks.

And since there is nothing more comforting and delicious in any culture than a home cooked meal, Chai Pani also brings you thalis – traditional family meals highlighting India’s amazing culinary diversity.

Chai Pani is the brain child (or maybe mid life crisis!) of husband & wife, Meherwan & Molly Irani. Meherwan is the executive chef & chief chaiwalla and the visionary beMountain Xpress Logohind the concept & menu. Molly directs the front of the house and is the creative & artistic force that brought the concept to a vibrant reality.
