Making waves on the high seas: Jam Cruise 2013

Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool goes international in Grand Turks and Jam Cruise gets a sonic education

The Bob Moog Foundation is delighted to announce that we will be taking part in Jam Cruise once again this year.  Thank you Jam Cruise for having us on board again!

Our team, consisting of Executive Director Michelle Moog-Koussa, BMF Rockstar volunteers Jay Pisaro, August Worley and Ben Hovey, and guest artist, Laura Escude,  set sail January 7th for Grand Turk Island,  Turks and Caicos, where we will be hosting a Dr. Bob’s Sonic Workshop at a local school as part of Jam Cruise’s Positive Legacy initiative, similar to last year’s presentation in Falmouth, Jamaica.

Forty children from a disadvantaged community will be learning all about  vibrations, waveforms, theremins, sythesizers, and more with the BMF crew and visiting artists including Rich Vogel (Galactic) and Joel Cummins (Umphrey’s McGee).

The Bob Moog Foundation is also hosting the following workshops during the cruise to educate and inspire fellow cruisers:

  • Bob Moog Foundation: Sonic Exploration Workshop Michelle Moog-Koussa, Laura Escudé  (aka Alluxe),  August Worley (former Moog Music Engineer), and musician/technologist Ben Hovey will lead Jam Cruisers through an interactive workshop focusing on sonic possibilities featuring Moog instruments and Ableton software. Including audience participation, the workshop will lead into an improvisational jam by all artists on stage highlighting technology that was discussed earlier in the workshop.  Participating Jam Cruise Artists: Joel Cummins (Umphrey’s McGee),  Rich Vogel (Galactic), Selwyn Brown and Sidney Mills (Steel Pulse).
  • Bob Moog Foundation: Interactive Sound Therapy Workshop Jam cruisers will have the opportunity to learn the concept of bioresonance and the basis of sound and music therapy as Reiki Master and Moog Technologist August Worley  demonstrates techniques such as shamanic breath work, toning, and visualization to capture key elements in using music for entrainment. August will be demonstrating a sound therapy device that he invented, the Pyradym.
  • Bob Moog Foundation: Inspiration & Exploration Workshop Music technologists Laura Escudé (aka Alluxe) and Ben Hovey will discuss and demonstrate modern composition, remixing, and performance techniques integrating traditional instruments with modern technology, using recent remixes of M83 and Polica.  Participating Jam Cruise Artist:  Dave Bailis (Pimps of Joytime).

For all of you Jam Cruisers out there, we’re looking forward to seeing you on the MSC Posea!
