Rules & Regulations for the Bob Moog Foundation’s Minimoog Raffle 2014

The Bob Moog Foundation is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation under the laws of the State of North Carolina for the primary purpose of preserving and honoring the legacy of Bob Moog through science, education and historic preservation.  The Bob Moog Foundation Mimimoog® Raffle is conducted for the purpose of generating operating funds.

Purchase one or more raffle tickets during the Raffle and you’ll be entered in our drawing to win a vintage Minimoog Model D. Raffle tickets are $20 each, or $100 for six. Odds of winning are based on the number of ticket entries purchased, which has been capped at 2000. Must be 18 years of age or older to enter. Employees of the Bob Moog Foundation and Moog Music, Inc., are not eligible for entry. The Raffle is open to participants worldwide. Contest void where prohibited. Raffle begins at 6:00 am on October 16, 2014 and ends at 11:59pm on November 25, 2014 or once all 2000 tickets have been sold. All times referenced are Eastern Time.

HOW TO ENTER: Go here for more details and complete the online entry form and pay entry/ticket fee with your credit card.

SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS:  The Winner will be selected at random and announced via e-mail on December 1, 2014. Once submitted, entries become the sole property of the Bob Moog Foundation and will not be returned. The Winner will be notified by telephone and/or email. If potential winner(s) cannot be reached after 30 days from first notification attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, such prize will be forfeited and alternate winner(s) will be selected by random drawing.

PRIZE: Grand prize is a Minimoog Model D serial number 3749 with Kevin Lightner’s recent “OptoKey” modification. The instrument has been serviced and is in excellent working condition, however the Bob Moog Foundation can make no guarantees about the technical functionality once the unit is shipped. The outside appearance of the instrument is good condition, but does show some signs of wear, including minor chips in the wood which we have addressed using a skilled technician. The value of the instrument is $5,000.  The winner will be drawn at random and announced on December 1, 2014.

SHIPPING TERMS:  The Bob Moog Foundation agrees to pay up to $200 in shipping costs.  Any additional shipping and/or customs charges are the responsibility of the Winner.  By purchasing a raffle ticket you are agreeing to cover all fees over $200 prior to shipment of the prize.  Failure to do so will result in forfeit of the prize and alternate winner(s) will be selected by random drawing.

TAX OBLIGATIONS:  The IRS now requires raffle winners to pay federal taxes on the raffle winnings at the time of the award. If the winner of the synthesizer is from NC, they will pay 3% state tax to the Bob Moog Foundation. The Bob Moog Foundation will assume the federal tax liability of 25% of MSRP to the IRS. All local and state taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner. For any prizes values at $1200 or more, the Bob Moog Foundation will file IRS Form 1099 MISC with Internal Revenue Service reporting the value of the prize as income to the winner. Winner must show proof of social security number to the Bob Moog Foundation. This is for tax recording purposes only, and will be not be used or released for any other purposes.

RE: Tax obligations for a Virginia resident, if I bought one ticket, would I owe taxes on $20.00 if I were to be lucky enough to win, or would it be taxes on the $5000.00 that the Mini-Moog Model D is valued at?
